With the release of his new album ‘Insurgent’, Australian trumpet player Mat Jodrell offers fresh new works composed for this recording session, and written specifically for these particular musicians.

This project enlists the talents of five heavyweights of the world Jazz scene - Will Vinson (saxophone), James Muller (guitar), Sam Anning (bass) and Ben Vanderwal (drums). Featuring 100% original music, this album will showcase Australian music and some of its finest exponents.

The band hails from all over Australia and the globe. After many years based in NYC, Mat Jodrell and Sam Anning now reside in Melbourne. Will Vinson is originally from the UK, but has been based in NYC for 10+ years now. James Muller is based in Adelaide, and Ben Vanderwal in Perth.

In the realm of Australian music, specifically Jazz, this album promises to be a very important addition to the body of work. The musicians chosen here all exist on the world stage, and getting them all in one room at one time to document new music is a rare feat.

Jodrell started out his career playing New Orleans music in Australia, but then went on to explore modern Jazz, playing with legends such as Ron Carter, Miguel Zenon, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra, Lucas Pino’s No Net Nonet, Jon Batiste, Paul Anka to name a few, as well as teaching at the prestigous Juilliard School of Music in New York.

The music presented here is of a very personal nature, each tune telling a story of life’s ups and downs. From the Rat Race of New York City, to the Vista that the Australian countryside provides, and the excitement incapsulated in Sao Paolo and O do borogodo, this album contains influences from all over the globe.

Incredibly intricate, challenging, yet melodic music played by an all-star cast, this record is set to become an Australian Jazz treasure.
